A great property with friendly, attentive hosts. This was a family celebration for seven adults and four children there was more than enough to keep us entertained and the grounds were great an ideal location for exploring the many beautiful lochs on the locations doorstep. The whole experience was enhanced by the fantastic weather lasting for the entire week of our stay. Would thoroughly recommend the property and the hosts.
Fantastic family retreat, everything well looked after. Pity about the VRBO and Sykes websites and lack of replies
Amazing property, well equipped for anything that is needed. Mac and Julie lovely and there to ask questions. Would love to revisit 5

This was a family holiday for 12, to celebrate our 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Our 6 grandchildren had asked to go to Scotland, and when we found Strone House on the Sykes website we decided that was the one. We did a preliminary visit when staying with our Scottish friends and met Julie who was totally charming and showed us round outside. We were thrilled with our choice. On arrival, we were overcome by the high standard of the property and furnishings and all the facilities..It was ideal for the grandchildren who used every facility games room, outside badminton, sauna and of course the hot tub all used by adults as well! The property was immaculate and we lacked for nothing. We were able to shower when we wanted and cook in the well appointed kitchen. Julie explained about the Aga, and we were left in no doubt how to make the best of the facilities throughout the house. Julie and Mac were perfect hosts and it is undoubtedly one of the best properties we have stayed in. We were so happy to receive a card ,flowers, chocolates and shortbread and a bottle of wine to mark are anniversary! Sykes, you have a real gem of a property on your books!!
Jennifer
Fantastic cottage quirky and unique with stunning gardens, friendly and helpful hosts who made us feel right at home, loved every moment of our stay would definitely recommend.

Fantastic property and Julie and Mac were amazing hosts. Such a lovely house and grounds. Brilliant scenery and property was peaceful, relaxing and a pleasure to stay at. Would definitely recommend.
Michael
Very much a family home which we had the privilege to share. Quirky beautiful 16th century property along with fascinating antique furnishings, paintings & items of interest with a library of books to choose from on wet days. Excellent position with views down the Glen from the house and garden which has a stream flowing through to Loch Lomond. The garden was bursting with Spring daffodils at the time of our visit and well maintained by our hosts Julie & Mac along with the assistance of their handyman John. Julie & Mac looked after our every need with their very well equipped house. Showing us how use the facilities of the BBQ house, sauna & hot tub. Along with the hot tub the children and adults enjoyed the well equipped games room and out door swing ball and badminton. A great house for hide & seek. A nice Julie touch being torches on each childs bed along with water pistols for outdoor use. A great venue to enjoy with family and friends in a beautiful part of Scotland. Thank you Julie & Mac.
Yes the cottage is quirky and old, and the place itself is stunning, the cottage was dirty when we arrived, the kitchen floor looked like it hadnt been cleaned for months. There was nowhere to put rubbish and considering the cottage sleeps 14, we struggled with 8, we were driving into the town daily to get rid of our rubbish. There were also two leaks one in the kitchen and one in the room next to the kitchen. Would i stay again, no probably not for the price we payed i just expected better.
This is the home I wish we all had that we could retreat to when the madness of the city and the hustle and bustle gets too much. I loved our stay here. I will tell you now, a weekend is just not enough!! If you are reading this, book at least 35 nights to really enjoy this place. Our hosts were the loveliest couple you could ever meet. They thought of everything, and I mean EVERYTHING!!!! From setting the dining table for our whole party, to every cooking or baking utensil you need. The hot tub was blissful and the scenery was lovely. We went for walks and enjoyed the games room and nothing beats chilling at the end of the day with a nice glass of wine in front of a huge roaring fireplace to keep warm. There were even blankets on each sofa or chair to snuggle up with.

We all had a fantastic week, the house has absolutely everything you need. Nothing is scrimped, grounds are immaculate, the house is absolutely charming as are Julie and Mac. Can't recommend it highly enough, we'll be back.
Following an unforgettable journey across Scotland from four different locations, with flooded roads, landslides, fallen trees, blocked roads and multiple diversions, we and our family finally arrived at Strone House just before dark to be met by Julie, Mac, a blazing fire, cosy kitchen, wine and cake! Our hosts had been out checking the surrounding access roads, and keeping in contact throughout the day with updates. What a relief to finally arrive to such a lovely, warm welcome. And what an amazing place Strone House is, full of history with loads to do. We were there to celebrate our ruby wedding with our three sons, their wives, and our two grandsons. The house was perfect. Conservatory was modern and bright, with an excellent heating system a great place for board games or art kitchen was always warm and the cooks among us enjoyed getting to grips with the Aga smaller lounge was cosy and well heated by the log burner the large sitting room was packed full of atmosphere games room, hot tub and sauna were used daily and the BBQ hut was a big success. We even managed some garden games, in spite of the mixed weather. Challenge for the week was to list our five favourite items in the house, and to count the number of chairs. Slight controversy over the eventual winner, as does a stool count, and if so, at what height does a creepie become a stool? It was a toss up between 81 and 85! Thanks so much to Julie and Mac for making us feel so welcome. My husband has Parkinson's and they couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. Never intrusive, but there if we needed them and a very special couple. Hopefully we'll make it back some day.
Suzanne
Strone house was absolutely wonderful, what a beautiful place with lots of history dotted about this fantastic cottage. The garden and facilities outstanding and the owners have thought of and supply everything you need. Thank you to the lovely owners who helped us with everything we needed and are never far away if you need any help. Loved it and will definitely be back xxx
William
Beautiful house in a fantastic location. Julie and Mac made us very welcome and were very helpful catering for our every need. Plenty to do and see, even if you don't leave the house. All in all we had a fabulous week and can't recommend Strone House enough.
Jacqueline
Complete five star reviews! The most amazing place we have stayed in. Our group consisted of 5 couples, elderly mother and 2 little ones under 3. Perfect for all ages. Well equipped with everything including playroom hot tub sauna and bbq hut. Owners were wonderful even giving me a card and little present for my birthday.
We had a wonderful time, super cool property!
Michael
The house and grounds were absolutely beautiful. Facilities were excellent, including the hot tub and sauna. The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. We really couldn't have asked for more. The owners were charming, and extremely helpful . A wonderful place indeed.
Had a great week at the house celebrating my husbands 30th with friends and family! Perfect for a big group celebration with lots of space for socialising and an amazing garden for the good weather. Julie and Mac are great hosts right next door for anything needed but give you privacy for your break!
I spent my 60th birthday weekend at Strone. We were warmly welcomed by Julie and her husband. It honestly is the perfect setting. We loved the beautiful big conservatory, hot tub, garden, sauna, games room.... absolutely beautiful home. Would 100 recommend it.
The property was just right for our party but unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to fully enjoy its facilities. The owners were very welcoming and helpful in showing us how to make the most of the facilities..
Lovely comfortable dog friendly house. Great welcome from owners.
WE had the most brilliant weekend. WE loved the cosy fire and the old fashioned quirkiness of the house. The games room was also a bit hit for table tennis and darts . Loved the hot tub and sauna. As the weather was pretty poor we did not use the garden which was lovely. The only downside which was not a problem to us was having to walk through a bedroom to get to our bedroom. Julie the owner was lovely Hope her husband feels better. 11 adults and 4 children had a great weekend. Thank you.
We all loved everything about this house, it has loads of interesting rooms with a very homely feel with loads of character. Our host Julie was lovely really helpful and made us all feel at home . Mac made sure we all knew about the outside spaces. Julie was particularly attentive to my mother who can have problems with stairs so a sofa bed downstairs was arranged which was perfect and cosy for her. We are a big family with some very loud voices so we were happy that we could be ourselves and relax and enjoy the property without feeling we would disturb anyone. Julie and her helpers had gone to loads of trouble setting up a birthday table for us and it was lovely for my brothers 60th celebration. It really made us feel welcome. The BBQ hut was a delight and we had fun cooking in there even though it is January it soon heated up .Hot Tub was a luxury and my mother managed to get into it at 84 years old . She also loved the Sauna as did my brother. We have some lovely photographs to by the open fire to remind us of the holiday. This was for a surprise party booking and I definitely made the right choice with Strone House. We will hopefully get back another time .
Strone House is wonderful very old and full of character, spacious for our family group of 10 and with lovely owners Julie and Mac who welcomed us and explained all we needed to know both in advance and when we arrived. They also very kindly decorated the house for Christmas. We enjoyed the kitchen including the Aga, watching the birds from the conservatory, the beautiful Christmas dining room, the Christmas lounge drawing room and the more cosy tv lounge. With the bonus of a hot tub, sauna and games room it was the perfect place for us all to relax. We didnt manage to use the barbecue hut, but were sure it would be lovely in the spring summer. We enjoyed dog walks from the house to the nearby reservoir and to the three lochs way past the memorial to the battle of Glen Fruin. The main shops are a short drive away in Helensburgh and to we had a nice pub meal at the Anchor Inn, Garelochhead where they also welcome dogs.
Arlene
Wonderful stay in a beautiful house. The hosts were truly lovely, so welcoming and explained all we needed. We had a large group starting for a special occasion and Julie and Mac made sure it was. The house has everything and more that you need and was spotlessly clean. Spacious and comfortable and teenagers loved the games room
A huge thanks to Julie and Mac. Sorry we had to leave sharp and could not say goodbye. We had a truly magical week. Cheers Suzie Q
Very warm welcome from the owners and many extra touches like a beautiful set table on arrival. Our group of adults and teenagers had a fabulous long weekend relaxing, walking and taking trips to the hot tub. Nearby Hill House in Helensburgh well worth a visit for a rainy day. The house had everything you could needand more. We wouldnt have felt quite so comfortable had our kids been smaller and running around with so many things to crash into and break. Perfect for adults and less energetic teens
This is a unique and quirky property which is very comfortable and suitable for all ages. We stayed as a 3 generation family group and there was something for all ages. Owners very helpful and welcoming made our stay extra enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
Louise
Fantastic house the kids just loved exploring the grounds, the games room and the hot tub. We a great house for large family get togethers.
Strone house is a get away from it all home from home. Mac and Julie are very accommodating and considerate hosts. Hot tub and sauna are fab facilities as is the games room that is full of every game you could imagine so something for everyone. The garden is beautiful and again equipped with outdoor sports. Lovely treats left for the 3 dogs that were with us too so they felt spoiled. Downside to the property is there is no mention of the rooster starting his daily alerts between 2 and 4am so often we were all up before 5am. Location of the cot room is above the fire place needs a clear out as the smoke enters the room, however cleared with the doors open so the smoke rises through the ceiling which is not ideal for a baby, simple solution is to have the cot room on the other side of the house. All in all the 10 of us enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone looking to get away from everyday life to come here
A hidden gem, lovley house, very quirky and full of history. Garden is great and outdoor facilities very good. Owners are a delight and so helpful. House not ideal for anyone with mobility issues would be my only point to note.
Felicity Adams
Absolutely wonderful stay in this truly unique and beautiful home. It was incredibly well appointed, the facilities were exceptional, and it was extremely warm and comfortable. We could not have wished for more, and would not hesitate to return and recommend to friends and family. Moreover, the owners of the property were so friendly and welcoming on arrival, left wine for us, and arranged to post some left belongings! Thank you so much for such a memorable holiday!

If youre looking for a magical property with every extra touch included, then Strone House is for you. Julie and Mac are the kindest, most generous of hosts and we had the most wonderful holiday. Thank you so much. We were a party of several adults , three children under ten with four dogs. Everyone, furry friends included, was well and truly spoiled!

We stayed as a family group of 8 adults and 4 girls under 11, in early October. Owners Mac and Julie were great in advance, suggesting suitable room layouts and activities for the girls. The house itself is amazing and the location is superb, in the middle of nowhere yet close to all the amenities of the area. The girls loved feeding the chickens, ducks and peacocks every day. Had only limited experience of Aga cooking previously but loads of cookbooks made it an enjoyable task for me. House has many amazing and thoughtful touches, the conservatory is a great area to relax during the day , as were the drawing room and TV lounge in the evenings. Very enjoyable stay, would visit again and would not hesitate to recommend Strone House as a unique and very comfortable home.
Amazing house! Lots of features and character, we loved exploring here. Sauna, hot tub and bbq hut were fab to have on a rainy weekend, we didnt end up leaving the house much due to weather. Lots of gardens to explore and kids loved feeding the chickens and seeing the peacocks. Very well equipped kitchen too not that we cooked much! Keen to plan a return trip.

The weather was . ... welll .... Scottish but Strone House and Mac and Julie's welcome and kindnesses more than made up for it. This house is quite simply a lovely place to be and easily and flexibly accommodates a large party 1 2 4 4 in our case. The piano's not bad either! Thanks. We may well haste ourselves back.

We had a fantastic New Year in this wonderful house. It has everything you could want! The owners are so kind and considerate and there were lovely personal touches everywhere. Thank you Strone House
Hi, We spent my hen weekend there in May 2008 with a group of German and Scottish girls and it was absolutely amazing. The house is beautiful, the garden perfect, the peacocks enchanting and the owners incredibly helpful. I will definitely be back! Eva
