Ringwood Guide

Ringwood cottages with hot tubs offer a perfect base for exploring the New Forest National Park. This historic market town sits on the western edge of the forest, with excellent access to both woodland trails and the Dorset coast.

The town's most popular attractions include Liberty's Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre (4.5/5 on TripAdvisor) and Ringwood Brewery (4/5 on TripAdvisor). Just outside town, Moors Valley Country Park offers walking trails, cycling routes and adventure playgrounds.

Ringwood has a fascinating brewing heritage - the town's original brewery dates back to 1740 and famous author Thomas Hardy mentioned Ringwood in his novels as a place of "good honest beer".

Cottage options range from traditional thatched properties to modern barn conversions. Many accommodate groups of 6-10, perfect for family gatherings. The addition of a hot tub makes these properties ideal for year-round breaks, regardless of the British weather.

Sightseeing

Ringwood sits in a fantastic spot for exploring both the New Forest and Dorset coast. The town itself has a lovely historic centre with a mix of independent shops and Georgian buildings around the marketplace.

Liberty's Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre (Crow Lane, Ringwood BH24 3EA, open 10am-5pm daily) scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. It's a brilliant place to see flying displays and get close to these amazing birds. The handlers really know their stuff and will answer all your questions.

Ringwood Brewery (138 Christchurch Road, BH24 3AP, tours Wed-Sat) gets 4/5 on TripAdvisor. The tour takes about 90 minutes and includes tasting sessions of their famous ales. I'd book ahead as they often sell out, especially in summer.

Moors Valley Country Park (Horton Road, Ashley Heath, BH24 2ET) scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor and has miles of walking trails, a miniature railway and Go Ape treetop adventures. The play areas are fantastic for kids and there's a good café too.

Pet Friendly

Ringwood is brilliant for dog owners. The New Forest has endless walking routes where dogs can run free and many local pubs welcome four-legged visitors.

The Railway Hotel (40 High Street, BH24 1AG) has a dog-friendly bar area and garden. They even provide water bowls and treats. The Fish Inn (Ringwood Road, BH24 3PB) is another good option where dogs are welcome in the bar and garden.

When walking in the New Forest with dogs, watch out for livestock. During ground-nesting bird season (March-July), keep dogs on leads in certain areas. The New Forest Dog Walking Code provides clear guidelines.

Many Ringwood cottages with hot tubs accept pets, but always check specific rules. Some may limit numbers or sizes, or charge a small fee. Remember to bring your dog's bed and toys to help them settle in quickly.

Top 3 attractions you have to see in Ringwood

Ringwood Market has run since the Middle Ages and still fills the town centre every Wednesday. It's much more than just fruit and veg - you'll find local crafts, fresh bread, Hampshire cheeses and handmade gifts. The atmosphere is great and we always pick up some local produce to enjoy back at the cottage.

Avon Valley Path runs through Ringwood and offers a 34-mile route from Salisbury to Christchurch. You don't need to walk the whole thing! The section through Ringwood follows the river and provides beautiful views. It's relatively flat and well-marked, making it suitable for most walkers. One visitor commented: "A lovely peaceful walk with plenty of wildlife to spot."

Ringwood Brewery isn't just about the tour - their shop stocks all their beers plus brewery merchandise. Their flagship ale, Ringwood Forty-Niner (named after the 1849 gold rush), has won multiple awards. Even if you don't do the tour, pop in to pick up some bottles to enjoy in your hot tub later!
